The question of how to achieve communication with people from other cultures through design has been a theme of mine since my student days. I would like participants to think constantly about how to convey your design to others and to look at things from the perspective of others. That doesn’t mean lowering your sights but having a separate viewpoint. One way to overcome the various feelings that arise when you encounter a different culture is to imagine that you were born in that country. Many things appear irrational when I think about them with the value standards of Japan, but with a bit of imagination most of them seem quite rational.
