<美術大学の時代的、社会的意義と使命：生きる、をつくる、つくる、を生きる＞

■企画趣旨：
美術学校として創立し、造形、美術、デザイン分野の高等教育機関として発展し、大学教育の一端を担ってきた我々美術大学は、世界の芸術文化と創造的な産業の世界に多くの人材を輩出し、豊かな社会形成に貢献してきて久しい。
しかし、創造性を育み、全人格的な素養と表現力を育む、真に人間的自由を標榜する教育の場としての美術大学は、今日の過度に効率を求めるグローバル経済と高度情報化社会の潮流の中、必ずしも正当な位置をあたえられてはいない。
また、先進諸国における少子化現象の中、ひとりひとり個性を開花させ、より豊かな人間性を育むことに資する造形美術教育の志向性に対して、我が国における、初等、中等教育における造形美術教育の軽視は、大きな問題を孕む。
美術大学が次代に果たすべき社会的使命とその今日的意味を、武蔵野美術大学８０周年の機会に、世界的なパースペクティブとともに展望、確認すべく、国内外の美術大学長によるサミットを開催して、広く社会に問題提起する。

World Summit of Art University Presidents
The Role of Art Universities in Society and Their Mission in This Era

Objective Art and design universities have played a substantial role by contributing influential graduates to the cultural field and creative industries, and to the development of our society as a whole. However, there has been a tendency for the value of art and design universities not to be properly appreciated in global society where only efficiency and convenience are highly valued. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Musashino Art University's foundation, we are hoping to explore the mission that art and design universities should fulfill for the next generation as well as the enhanced value they can contribute based on the perspectives of the presidents of leading art and design universities worldwide. The conclusions reached at the summit will be published in a two-page article in the highly respected national newspaper, The Asahi Shimbun.
